“Noi, gli artisti firmatari dall’Europa e oltre, sosteniamo il sentito appello da parte degli artisti palestinesi per boicottare l’Eurovision Song Contest 2019 ospitato da Israele”, dopo la vittoria di Netta Barzilai, a Lisbona, nel maggio 2018: questo è l’incipit di una petizione pubblicata sul The Guardian venerdì 7 settembre e firmata da oltre 100 artisti provenienti da 18 paesi.
La petizione continua affermando che “l’Eurovision 2019 andrebbe boicottato se verrà ospitato in Israele mentre questi continua la sua grave, decennale violazione dei diritti umani palestinesi. […] (L’Euopean Broadcasting Union, o EBU) dovrebbe cancellare la scelta di Israele per la gara nel suo complesso e trasferirla in un altro paese con un maggiore rispetto dei diritti umani. L’ingiustizia divide, mentre la ricerca della dignità e dei diritti umani unisce.”
Tra i firmatari compaiono i musicisti Roger Waters e Briano Eno, i registi Ken Loach e Mike Leigh e l’attrice Julie Christie. Vi sono anche 5 firmatari italiani: il drammaturgo Moni Ovadia, il vignettista Vauro, i gruppi musicali Assalti Frontali e Radiodervish e il coro Pinko Tomazic. Inoltre, hanno firmato anche 6 musicisti israeliani, oltre ad artisti israeliani che vivono all’estero (come il musicista Dror Feiler e il regista Eyal Sivan, che vivono rispettivamente in Svezia e in Francia).
Nel caso di Ken Loach, questa non è la prima controversia che lo vede coinvolto quest’anno: infatti, oltre ad essere un acceso sostenitore di Jeremy Corbyn, ad aprile dichiarò che i deputati laburisti che hanno accusato Corbyn di antisemitismo andrebbero “espulsi a calci dal partito.”
Secondo Ynet, i preparativi per l’Eurovision, che si terrà nel maggio 2019, sono già iniziati da tempo, e nei prossimi giorni dovrebbe essere annunciata la città dove si terrà; la scelta sarà tra Tel Aviv e Gerusalemme, dopo che Eilat ha ritirato la propria candidatura.
In seguito all’annullamento della partita di calcio amichevole che avrebbe dovuto disputarsi tra Israele e Argentina, annullata per le polemiche su Gerusalemme, il primo ministro Benjamin Netanyahu ha dato istruzioni al ministro della cultura Miri Regev e al ministro delle comunicazioni Ayoob Kara di non prendere iniziative che possano compromettere le trattative con l’EBU.
